Auto Insurance

Your car, truck or SUV insurance policy

Considering that an estimated 1 in 6 drivers do not have insurance1, even though it’s mandated, you begin to realize how important it is to have the right amounts of insurance coverage for your car or truck.

When you drive, you are responsible for the safety of yourself, your passengers, your fellow drivers, pedestrians and other people’s property. Auto insurance covers the costs of potential damages or injuries.  This is especially important if you have teen drivers, since your potential for exposure from lawsuits is much higher.

State laws require you to be financially responsible when you drive. In fact, Rhode Island and Massachusetts will not register your car without insurance.

Understanding Your Auto Policy and the Types of Coverage Available

Your agent at Loiselle insurance will advise you on several types of coverage for your vehicle:
General liability – covers damage you cause to other people’s property and injuries in an accident.
Collision – covers damage to your own vehicle in an accident.
Comprehensive (fire, theft and other non-collision damage) – covers fire damage to your vehicle, break-ins, vandalism or theft, as well as natural disasters such as hail, hurricanes, floods, and earthquakes.
Medical payments insurance – covers medical expenses for injuries and provides payments for you, your passengers and others, regardless of fault.
Uninsured motorist (UM) and underinsured motorist (UIM) – covers you if you are injured in an accident with a driver who does not have or does not carry enough liability insurance.

Additional coverage, which are commonly referred to as “endorsements,” are available to cover expenses for towing, labor, and temporary replacement vehicles, as well as many other possible expenses.
