Fall is here and that means plenty of fresh, delicious apples. With so many orchards, it can be hard to choose.
Here are some of Rhode Island’s favorite apple picking spots, but there’s so many we couldn’t possibly include them all here. Try one, or try them all, but enjoy!
Cranston
Pippin Orchard
This orchard is open for picking between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. daily. They feature Red Delicious, Empire, Empire, Cortland, Gala, and more. Don’t miss their signature apple slushy with caramel or maple. Yum!
Greenville
Steere Orchard
This is one the largest orchards in the state and it is open for picking between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. daily until late fall.
Available varieties through the season include Rhode Island Greening, Empire, Golden Delicious, and more. They’re also having an Apple Fest on October 7th and 8th which will feature music, baked goods, and vendors selling their wares.
Harmony
Harmony Farms
An entire two acres on this farm are dedicated to apples. They offer picking every day, except Tuesday and long picking hours on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday (8 a.m.to7 p.m.) so everyone can enjoy freshly-picked apples. Friday through Sunday picking ends at 5p.m.
Johnston
Dame Farm and Orchard LLC
This farm and orchard opens up acres of land to the public so you can come and pick your favorite varieties. Choose from Gala, Cortland, McIntosh, Macoun, Honeycrisp, and more.
Picking hours are between 8:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. On weekends or holidays they close at 5:00 p.m.
Hill Orchards
During September and October you can visit this historic orchard between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. for some of the best apples in the state. The farm has grown apples since the 1920’s and varieties include Granny Smith, Rome, Red Delicious, Gala, and more.
Middletown
Sweet Berry Farm
Wander through miles of orchards and pick some of your favorites such as Cameo, Empire and Liberty, Cortland, Honeycrisp, Ginger Gold, and many more.
They offer ling picking hours between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. daily so everyone can get out to the farm.
North Scituate
Barden Family Orchard
Barden’s offers Honeycrisp, Jonagold, Cortland, McIntosh, and Gala apples as well as cider and fresh produce. You can pick between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and until 4 p.m. on weekends.
Knight Farm Orchard
This family-run pick-your-own orchard has been in operation since 1800. Picking hours are between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. daily though until October 20th. You can also enjoy a 20 minute hayride on the Knight Farm Wagon and enjoy cider donuts.
Scituate
Indian Rock Farm Rhode Island
This family-owned orchard offers many varieties of apples and fall décor. Picking hours are Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday & Sunday 0:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Varieties include Cortland, Macoun, McIntosh, Honeycrisp, Yellow Delicious, Empire, Gala, RI Greening, Cameo, and many more.
Smithfield
Jaswell’s Farm
This is the 117th season for this farm and they offer apple picking between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. daily until the end of October.
Besides fresh apples, they also sell apple products such as apple-cider donuts, apple crisp, candied apples, and apple cider pressed and pasteurized on-site.
Sunset Orchard Farm
This orchard has a huge selection of apple varieties, so we won’t even try to list them all. At last count, they had 25.
Picking hours are between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. daily until the end of October. They also offer fresh-pressed apple cider, candied apples, and other goodies.
