What are the RI Car Insurance Requirements?state-flag-rhode-island-300x263

According to RI state law, auto insurance is mandatory for anyone who owns a vehicle. The minimum required limits of liability insurance are $25,000 per person and $50,000 per accident for bodily injury and $25,000 for property damage. This means that you have up to $25,000 for bodily injury incurred by any one person and up to $50,000 in any one accident should more than one person be involved. You also have $25,000 of property damage liability, which pays for damage to property for which you are legally responsible for, such as another car, a telephone pole, or a fence.
You can always choose to purchase increased coverage amounts, as well as additional coverages, such as medical payments, uninsured motorists, or physical damage. If you opt to buy only the mandatory limits, you must reject medical payments and uninsured motorists coverage at the time of application for insurance.
