northern RI food pantry Miles for Meals

In April, we donated the funds raised during our casual Fridays to The Northern RI Food Pantry to sponsor their 4th Annual bike ride, Miles for Meals as we have in the past. We raised $110, and the company matched it for a donation of $220.

The Northern RI Food Pantry helps individuals and families in Rhode Island by providing vitally needed food and services so residents can attain a decent quality of life. Poverty is a growing problem in the U.S., and Rhode Island is no exception.

Over 700,000 Rhode Island residents need help just to feed themselves every month, and close to 12% of families can’t make ends meet without some assistance. For many, the choice is to buy medication and pay to keep a roof over their head. This leaves little left for essentials such as food and heat, even though many of these people work.

Everyone’s welcome to use the Northern RI Food Pantry, a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization. People come from all walks of life, but they all share one thing; they need a little help to get by and NRIFP provides it.

Volunteers staff the NFRIP that serve about 400 people per month. The organization relies on private and corporate donations, especially from their major fundraisers. The “Miles for Meals” is one of these. Their goal this year is to raise $16,000, which would allow them to buy 160,000 pounds of food.

This year, the Miles for Wheels bike ride is on Sunday, June 3rd at Diamond Hill Park. If you want to participate, you can choose from 3 ride options: 7.5 mile ride for beginners, a 15 mile ride for intermediate riders, and a 32 mile ride for seasoned cyclists. You can find registration information here.

Even though the Northern RI Food Bank buys tons of food and conducts food drives, they still need donations to meet the high demand. If you are not able to participate in one of their fundraisers, your cash donation or monthly pledge can help them in their efforts.

Your donations go directly to the food bank’s effort, since they do not pay their staff. If you would like to donate to this worthwhile cause, you can do so on their website.

If your company would like to sponsor the event, download the form, complete it, and mail it to NRIFP.
