In December, we donated the funds raised during our casual Fridays to Salvation Army of Pawtucket. We helped in several ways, as we do every year.
Our first contribution was an agency sponsorship of the Red Kettle Campaign that helps families and individuals in need during the holidays. The Salvation Army also helps community members year-round through various services. These include providing food for the hungry, assistance for the disabled, community outreach to the elderly and ill, clothing and shelter to the homeless and opportunities for underprivileged children. They are also a leader in disaster relief in our country including assistance after 9/11 and Hurricane Katrina and Sandy.
As part of our Christmas campaign, Loiselle also “adopted” 20 children through the Angel Tag program. This program involves buying gifts of clothing toys, winter outerwear, and more for countless children in our community.
Unfortunately, many children in Rhode Island don’t wake up to a stack of gifts under the tree on Christmas Day. The poverty rate in Rhode Island is the highest for children. Over a fifth of all children under 6-years old live in poverty and a fifth of those between 6 and 11-years old.
Families struggle to make ends meets and they can afford little or nothing during the holidays. Priorities such as food, rent, and medicine take priority over Christmas gifts. Fortunately, the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program has helped put a smile of the faces of many of these children for over thirty years and counting.
Finally, the entire staff took turns ringing the bell for the kettle campaign at Stop & Shop on Mendon Road in Cumberland on December 20th. It was a nippy day, but we braved the weather to raise needed funds for community members that need a helping hand during the holiday season.
Loiselle Insurance Agency is an integral part of the community and we’ve had the privilege to serve many generations. We understand anyone can come upon hard times and we’re committed to help.
The Salvation Army of Pawtucket continually demonstrates their effectiveness in our neighborhoods. They typically spend 84% of all donations helping others and they rank as one of the top ten charities in the country. They also meet the standards of the Wise Giving Alliance, have an A rating with Charity Watch, and all donations are tax-deductible.
If you would like to support your community in these worthwhile endeavors, you can donate to the Salvation Army. They offer countless ways to help including online donations, cash, check, or money order, planned giving, memorial and matching gifts, and more. Our community’s needs don’t end after the holidays and your contribution will definitely help.
