In November and December, we donated the funds raised during our casual Fridays to Salvation Army of Pawtucket. We helped in several ways, as we do every year, because we believe in this worthy cause.
Our first contribution was an agency sponsorship of $1,000 to support the Red Kettle Campaign in Pawtucket and Cumberland. Most of us connect the Red Kettles to Christmas dinner for those in need, and they are still forefront during Christmas to provide families and individuals with assistance.
However, many people don’t realize the Salvation Army efforts are far-reaching and year-round. They now serve over 30 million people globally through various services. These include disaster response, social services such as providing food, shelter, clothing and financial assistance, counseling, youth camps, music, arts and crafts, and athletics, and assisting seniors. They also advocate against human and sexual trafficking on an international scale.
As part of our Christmas campaign, Loiselle also “adopted” 40 children through the Angel Tree program. This program involves buying gifts and clothing for children through employee and agency generosity. With so many tags on the tree annually, we wish we could do more.
Every Christmas many children in our area wake up to little or nothing under the tree. Their families struggle to make ends meets and they can’t afford the luxury of Christmas gifts. They need to buy food and medicine, pay their rent, and survive. Fortunately, the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program helps fulfill that need for many children, as it has for over 30 years.
Finally, the entire agency stood in the cold and rain for our annual bell ringing tradition on December 21st at Stop & Shop in Cumberland. While the weather was daunting, it didn’t subdue our spirits. We raised additional, direly-needed funds right before Christmas. These funds make a tremendously positive impact on those struggling during a normally prosperous season.
Loiselle Insurance Agency has deep roots in our community. We’ve had the privilege to serve the grandparents, parents, and children of families in the area and we know anyone can come upon hard times. We do what we can to help others, because we want everyone to prosper. Our commitment to Salvation Army efforts comes from first-hand evidence of their effectiveness in Rhode Island.
If you would like to support your community in these worthwhile endeavors, you can donate to the Pawtucket Salvation Army here. Their need for donations doesn’t end after the holidays.
The Salvation Army typically spends 84% of donations on helping others. During disasters, every dime goes towards relief efforts. They also meet the standards of the Wise Giving Alliance and have an A rating with Charity Watch. Donations are also tax-deductible.
