When people think of Central Falls, most people just think “small”, after all it is the the smallest city in the smallest state. However, what many people do not realize is the wide range of culture crammed into a square mile. This is most evident when you look at the different types of restaurants Central Falls has to offer. Showcasing these various culinary experiences is the whole idea behind Central Falls restaurant week, “A World of Flavors in One Square Mile.”
During the week of October 12th through the 18th, participating restaurants throughout the city are offering meal specials. During Central Falls Restaurant Week, you will receive a passport to guide you as you “travel the world” and experience a World of Flavors in One Square Mile. At each restaurant you visit, you can have your passport stamped as you travel throughout the week.
Having grown up in Central Falls, I wanted to participate in restaurant week and support my hometown. I also decided I would be adventurous and not “travel” somewhere I had already eaten. As I surveyed the list of participating restaurants, I knew I could cross off many places that were already favorites of mine. I have spent many delicious mornings at Georgia’s enjoying their fantastic breakfasts. El Paisa is also one of my favorite places for homemade Columbian food. I have also eaten more Stanley burgers and Village Pizzas than I would ever admit! Mmmmm….sooo good!!
With many enticing choices, I decided to “travel” to Venezuela by having lunch at the Budare Grille. I had never tried Venezuelan food before and I was really excited. Their restaurant week lunch special was 2 arepas for $10. So, I ordered the Mi Margarita arepa and the la llarena arepa. I had no idea what I had actually ordered but was delighted when I received my food!
An arepa is a corn pancake used as the sandwich bread. The Mi Margarita arepa came with shrimp sautéed in garlic and avocado inside it. It was amazing! The shrimp was moist and cooked perfectly. The seasoning on the shrimp was flavored with a great balance of garlic and spicy. Mi Margarita arepa was also served with a side of avocado sauce that complimented the shrimp perfectly.
La llarena arepa was recommended to me by the staff. It was strips of steak, Spanish cheese and avocado served inside an arepa. It was also amazing. They were very generous with the quantity of steak inside my arepa. It was also seasoned and cooked perfectly, melting inside my mouth. It was served with a side of tangy chipotle sauce for dipping.
I had a really great lunch at Budare Grille. The staff was very welcoming and helpful and the food was delicious! I will definitely travel back again.
If you are looking to try something new, visit one of these diverse restaurants this week! Even local politicans are visiting Central Falls, Senator Jack Reed, Mayor Allan Fung and Governor Gina Raimondo were all seen participating in restaurant week!
