a baby's hand on top of his father's hand

Sunday, June 20th is Father’s Day and it’s time to show your dad just how much you care. Luckily, Rhode Island offers a wide variety of options and many of them are unusual and very affordable.

Here are a few ideas if you haven’t figured out how you’ll honor dad this year.

Check Out Porsches

Does your father love fast sports cars and the squeal of tires on pavement? Why not take him to the Newport Car Museum for a peek at some of the sportiest, fastest, and sexiest cars straight off the assembly line – Porsches.

Dad can see a 1956 Porsche 356a Speedster, 1979 Porsche 930 Turbo, and more. The best thing is you only have to drive to Portsmouth and the cost is only $18 for adults and $15 for seniors. Hours are 10:00 am to 5:00 pm daily.

Visit a Beer Garden

If Dad has a soft spot for all things related to hops and barley, why not visit one of Providence’s beer gardens?

Trinity beer garden offers beer, cocktails, wine, and a rotating selection of food trucks. Plus, there’s entertainment such as comedy, trivia, and music. The Guild PVD beer garden offers fine views of Providence, craft beer, and food trucks if you need to nibble. GPub beer garden offers lawn games, pub food, and or course, beer. Check the link for daily times for all venues.

Experience a Touch of Asia at the Zoo

The zoo is always fun, but what if it was illuminated by scores of larger-than-life Asian lanterns depicting wild animals? That’s what is happening at the Roger Williams Park Zoo every Sunday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, between 5:30 pm and 10:00 pm.

Walk throughout the zoo, enjoy interactive displays, and chow down on tasty Asian-inspired food. Be sure to buy your tickets online, because they aren’t available on-site.

Explore Providence

Dad might live in Rhode Island, but how well does he know the capital? Why not take a comfortable bus tour of the city to learn more about our great city?

Tours run from College to Federal Hill and from Brown University to the State House on all weekdays between 11:00 am and 12:30 pm. They’re family friendly and a lot of fun.

Take a River Cruise

A sunset cruise through Providence complete with local wine and Prosecco offers stunning views of Providence on select Thursday, Friday & Saturday evenings.

This is a leisurely cruise without the natter of a guide, so don a warm jacket and quietly glide down the river with dad as the sun sets. Enjoy your moments together and see the capital from a new perspective.

Enjoy a Great Meal

Nothing says “I love you, Dad” more than a special meal that satisfies his carvings. Dine indoors, on the patio, or choose delivery if that better suits your needs.

If you want to dine at a restaurant, we suggest you make a reservation through the Open Table link above.

Go on a Joy Ride

We’ve all spent far too much indoors over the past year, so why not fill up the tank, jump in the car with dad, and head out on an adventure.

Enjoy coffee and dessert, visit a climbing gym, or speed around on an R1 indoor karting track. You’ll find eight options through the link above, all of them packed with fun for Dad throughout the region.
