The month of October is known worldwide as Breast Cancer Awareness Month. So, throughout the month of October, our office was dedicated to raising awareness about breast cancer. Having several breast cancer survivors in our office made this message especially important to us.
Throughout the month of October, everyone in the office wore pink on Wednesdays as a small way for us to raise awareness for breast cancer. Wednesdays also usually included some type of pink delicious dessert such as strawberry shortcake and pink cookies. One week we were treated to Gregg’s Cake for a Cure, a delicious pink cake with Gregg’s Restaurant donating the proceeds from the dessert to the Gloria Gemma Foundation.
Our Wednesdays were pink, but our Fridays were casual. On Fridays throughout the year, we dress casually on Fridays in exchange for a small donation to the charity that we have chosen for that month. So, it seemed appropriate to choose the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Research Foundation as our charity for October.
The Foundation was established in 2004, in memory of Gloria Gemma who lost her battle to cancer in 2002. Her family wanted to create a foundation with a warm family atmosphere, that helped treat the emotional and physical components of cancer. The Gloria Gemma Foundation develops and implements programs and services for people living with breast cancer.
What an inspiring organization! It is our pleasure to donate $254 to such a great cause. For more information on the Gloria Gemma Foundation, feel free to visit the website by clicking here.
