As we have all become unpleasantly aware over the past few years, Mother Nature sure does pack a punch… whenever and wherever she wants. It seems no area is safe from flooding and excessive wind damage anymore. When it rains, it pours. When it snows, it almost always feels like a blizzard. Are you prepared for all that could possibly come your way?

While we are still in a seasonally agreeable weather pattern, it would be a good idea to review your current homeowner’s insurance policies to make sure you have enough coverage. Do you have flood insurance? You may never have gotten it because you thought you were outside of a flood plain. While that may be true, you could still suffer from flood damage. Without flood insurance, you may not have coverage for your belongings.

Also, it would be a good idea to take inventory of your home and its contents. You may have purchased some expensive items since you last updated your homeowner’s insurance, which means you may not be covered as much as you think if your home suffers damage. Take pictures and come up with a figure to see if you will have enough insurance. If you are not sure if you have the right coverage, we can help.

Getting back to floods, it would be a good idea to get a flood insurance quote from your insurance carrier. You may find that it does not cost much and the coverage you will have will far outweigh the premium you will pay. It is up to you.
