This past Friday April 17th, I attended the Sound Check night at the Bucket Brewery. For those of you who haven’t heard of this event, every third Friday, the Bucket opens its doors to the community for local music and beer tastings. Admission to the brewery is just $15 dollars; this comes complete with 4 beer tasting tickets, an entry into a raffle and live music. For an extra $5 dollars you get a pretty rad Bucket Brewery glass, which also allows bigger tastings. (I was a big fan of this option!) Also, if you bring a non-perishable food item to donate to Rhode Island Food Bank, you get an extra beer tasting ticket. So, you get to feel good for donating to charity, while being rewarded with delicious beer.
The band chosen to perform this month was The Little Compton Band. It was very neat to see a band performing amid the big vats of fermenting beer in the midst of this small brewery. The band was great, it had a lively new age rock roots sound to it. The music felt perfect for the venue and created a cool vibe.
The brewery offered tastings of 4 of their Nano-brewed beers. My personal favorite was their spring beer, the 33rd Inning Red Rye Lager. It had interesting flavors instilled in it, while still tasting like a beer. They also offered their traditional Pawtucket Pail Ale, along with two darker beers, the 13th Maple Stout and the Park Loop Porter. It was a great variety of beers, something for every palate. The owners were working the taps for the tasting. I loved this, because it allowed a much more personal experience. They were very friendly and loved discussing their beers even if you disagreed with them about their favorite type.
It is not a wonder why this event drew such a great crowd with a variety of ages. If you enjoy live music and beer, this event is a must! This is a hidden gem and a great way to spend a Friday night.
