If you are planning a trip out of the United States, you probably already checked into flights or mapped out your route to get yourself there as quickly and safely as possible. But if you are leaving our American soil to visit another country, there is much more that needs to be done before you can board your flight or gas up the car for your trip.

One of the most important things you will need is a passport. If you have never traveled outside of the U.S. or it has been a while since you’ve left, you may not know that you are now required to have a passport even if you are visiting Mexico or Canada. The sooner you can start the process in getting your passport, the better. It can sometimes take over a month from start to finish when it comes to getting our passport in your hands. Thankfully, there are options when purchasing a passport that can save you money. If you are not planning on traveling abroad, you can purchase an identification card that will work the same as a passport in Canada and Mexico for a fraction of the cost a passport would be.

Also, be sure to check with your insurance carriers to see if you need to do anything additional to ensure coverage while you are out of the country. Your health insurance and auto policies may not cover you when you leave America. You might need to amend your current policies or purchase additional coverage. Your life insurance policies should not be affected, but it is always better to check before you go just to be certain. Give us a call and we can help determine how much insurance you currently have and if you will be covered for your trip out of the country.
